6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered. 2 Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers. Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare[a] of their slaves.

11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

We cannot understand His word on our own. We need the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth to us.
All knowledge is hidden in Christ. All knowledge begins with Him! There is no knowledge without Him!
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

I get lost so often in study, work and all other things from this world, but as I read this chapter, I became calm and now know again what the most important thing is:
1 Timothy 6:11 - But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
Thanks for sharing this Bible study!
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

In a recent men's Bible study we discussed false prophets and false teachers from 2 Peter 2. Guess I kind of ruined things by convincing the guys that the text was not exclusively talking about nonbelievers. That, in fact, any of us have the capacity to become false prophets and false teachers in a variety of extremes. That all are candidates for restoration. That the example of angels in hell did not directly state that the harsh consequences for being false would always end in the false prophet/teacher going to hell. The conclusion? An agreement was made that we are to follow Christ instead of each other. So I will go to a couple of "buts" in this chapter: "But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content, ...." Contentment is a godly value. After all, everything belongs to God. He allows us to use and to manage a portion of His stuff. The less I have to manage, the less headaches I have. The more I have to manage, the more I have to enjoy. It seems possible to have godliness without contentment but then godliness would not be complete. The TV throws all kinds of stuff at us that we "need." "Food and clothing." That's all we need.

Your theory about this not being read is incorrect since I have in fact just read it
1All slaves should show full respect for their masters so they will not bring shame on the name of God and his teaching. 2If the masters are believers, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. Those slaves should work all the harder because their efforts are helping other believers who are well loved.
LET US BE CONTENT.6Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. 7After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. 8So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.
9But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
